The Graduate Diploma in Family & Relationship Therapy is a competency based graduate qualification which is accredited through the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT). It provides practical, on the job training, skills and specialised knowledge that is required to provide individuals, couples and families with treatment for a wide range of referral reasons. Entry into the Graduate Diploma is through direct application to William Street Family Therapy Centre.

This course is delivered both online and face-to-face. Theory work is online so students are able to choose when and where they study and work through course material each week in a way that suits them. As part of gaining their qualification, students are required to attend William Street Family Therapy Centre for Experiential group work; group training workshops; as well as work in the William Street Family Therapy Clinic where they both observe and participate in real life sessions with clients and our supervisors. This provides students with practical opportunities to participate and contribute to ongoing excellent therapy with individuals, couples and families. It also provides ongoing supervision of live therapy from a wide range of experienced and accredited clinicians/supervisors.

Entry to this course will be by interview and demonstration of at least one of the following:

  • An undergraduate degree or higher qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology, Social Work, Social Science or equivalent; or

The WSFT Clinic is a teaching clinic where clients come for therapy at a low fee and allow students to observe and provide treatment. This is a very unique way to learn as you are then given the opportunity to review your session and receive feedback from your peers and our accredited practitioners/supervisors.

What is the cost of the course?
