FAMILY and RELATIONSHIP THERAPY TRAINING COURSE YEAR 2 2012
PROGRAM
The William Street Family Therapy Centre provides therapy for
families and couples. Apart from providing a service to the public,
it also conducts Family & Relationship Therapy Training Courses
for professionals already qualified in one of the following
disciplines: Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational
Therapy, Psychiatry, Medicine, and other helping professions.
This course is the second part of a two year trainng program. If
you have not completed the FTTC 1 here at William Street Family
Therapy Centre but have satisified the requirements of the course,
please download and complete the Recognition for Prior Learning
form to be submitted with registration. Date of course

AIMS OF FAMILY & RELATIONSHIP THERAPY TRAINING COURSE
The course aims to provide advance training in the theory and
practice of Family & Relationship Therapy. The theoretical
aspect of the course will be based on the individual requirements
of the participants, while supervision will focus on 'live'
supervision of families and couples in therapy, and incorporating a
'reflecting team' approach.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course will be conducted on a weekday (eg 3.00pm - 8.00pm -
to be confirmed with trainees). Please note: The day of the week
that the course will take place will be decided by and confirmed
with the trainees. There will be forty (40) sessions
conducted during the year, with a 4-week break mid year. Date of
commencement to be confirmed.
COURSE CONTENT AND TIME REQUIREMENT
All trainees entering the second year of this course will have
completed the first year of the Family & Relationship Therapy
Training Course (or the equivalent). The second year will
provide an opportunity for trainees to pursue their personal areas
of interest in the field of Family & Relationship
Therapy. Trainees can choose to research any aspect of
Relationship Therapy in the Second Year. Areas covered in
previous years include:
- Child Sexual Abuse
- Cultural Issues in Therapy
- Domestic Violence
- Depression in Families
- Conduct Disorder
- ADD & ADHD in Families
- Trans-generational Scripting
- Affairs & Couple Therapy
Apart from the 5 hours per week of the course, it would be
anticipated that trainees would require approximately a further
three hours per week for reading, reviewing tapes, etc., for their
own preparation
The main focus of the second year will be to tailor the course
to the needs of trainees in the group, and agencies in which they
are employed; and to provide advanced training in Family &
Relationship Therapy. Year 2 will focus on a range of advanced
skill including:
- Working with Multi-problem Families
- Tailoring Family Therapy Approaches
- Specialised Techniques - Uses & Abuses
- Politics of Therapy
- Use of Metaphor
- Power & Control in Therapy
SELECTION AND ASSESSMENT
A minimum of 6 places and maximum of 10 places will be available
for the course. Preference will be given to those who have
completed the Year 1 Course, or its equivalent.
STAFF
The course will be conducted by Aldo Gurgone (B.A.; B.Psych;
M.Psych.) Director; and Training Staff of the William Street Family
Therapy Centre (Anne Holloway; Steve Lionello; & Rosemary

professional details. The Training Staff have considerable
experience in training and supervising family and relationship
therapists.
ANNUAL FEES
A sliding scale of fees will apply: $3400* with 10 trainees, to
$4150* (per year) with 6 trainees. A deposit of $770 paid
with confirmation of enrolment, and remainder by term payment.
*plus GST (10% extra).
